John Korir successfully defended his Boston marathon title by setting a new course record that had stayed for 15 years.
In the 16th year, former Chicago marathon, Korir won today’s Boston marathon with a course record of 2:01:52 better than Geoffrey Mutai’s 2:03:02 set way back in 2011
Korir surged away to beat Tanzanian and world champion Alphonce Felix Simbu and Benson Kipruto, Hendrik Pfeiffer, Ryan Ford and Alex Masai.
Korir set a course record of 2:01:52 followed by Simbu and Kipruto in 2:02:47 2:02:50 respectively with all top three finishing inside the previous course record of 2:03:02, set back in 2011 by Geoffrey Mutai.
