Karanga, Balala, Lejirma, Muigua return to chase points at Great Rift Valley championships

Elite amateurs will return into the action over the weekend at the 2nd edition of the Great Rift Valley Championship that tees off tom0orrowe to Sunday at ther par 72 Great Rift Golf club in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

After competing at the Africa Amateur Chamionships last weekend at the Leopard Creek in South Africa, top amateurs like Michael Karanga, Elvis Muigua, Dennis Maara and Adel Balala, will be seeking local points ahead of Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) ranking.

The three day will be featuring 115 players competing in a 54-hole stroke play format from February 14th to February 16th with a highly competitive lineup, all participants will compete in the first two rounds, after which the top 33 players, including ties, will advance to the final round.

Recognized as a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event, the championship offers players the chance to earn valuable ranking points while vying for the coveted title. The tournament will adhere to the Rules of Golf as approved by R&A Rules Limited, alongside the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Local Rules and any additional local regulations set by the Tournament Committee.

Kenya Golf Union Vice Chairman and Tournament Director Mr. Chris Kinuthia shared his excitement for the upcoming event, saying, “We are thrilled to host a competitive field for the Great Rift Valley Championship. This tournament is a fantastic opportunity for both elite golfers and rising stars to sharpen their skills and gain essential experience. I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to all the players for their continued support of this series.”

This year’s prize purse is set at Kenya shillings 225,000. Players to watch include defending champion Elvis Muigua, as well as Daniel Kiragu, Sammy Mulama, and Josphat Rono. Notably, two female competitors will participate: Kellie Gachaga from Karen Country Club and Diana Mbuba from Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

The winner of this years event will walk away with Fifty Five Thousand three hundred shillings (Ksh. 55,300).
