Kenyans Korir and Chelangat triumph at Ottawa marathon

Former New York City marathon champion Albert Korir and upstart Mercy Chelangat were the winners of today’s Ottawa marathon held in Ontario, Canada.

Korir won the men’s title in 2:08:22 ahead of American Rory Linkletter at 2:08:31 with compatriot Clayton Albertson coming third at 2:08:55.

At 31, won the 2023 New York City Marathon title, reclaimed the Ottawa title since 2019 after coming to the race as the fastest man with 2:06.7 set at the New York marathon two years ago.

Making her debut in marathon, Chelangat won the women’s race to make double victories for Kenyans in Canada.

Chelangat edged out former Paris Marathon champion Visiline Jepkesho to second and Ethiopian Meseret Gebre to third.

She clocked 2:23.33 for the title as compatriot Jepkesho was second in 2:28.09 with Gebre finishing in third place in 2:30.46.
