Kipchoge, Kosgei to defend titles at rescheduled London marathon

World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge and Brigid Kosgei are set to defend their titles at the rescheduled London Marathon, the world marathon majors race.

Kipchoge will be facing off with Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele. The duo, who have the best time in marathon will be held on October 4th meant for elite athletes only after it was postponed due to coronavirus pandemic where it was to be held April 26the but was moved to October 4th.

London is the only race in the WMM to be held after Boston, Chicago, Berlin and New York were cancelled.

“Elite races for men, women and wheelchair athletes will take place on an enclosed looped course in St James’s Park in a secure biosphere,” they said in a statement. The long-awaited head-to-head between Kipchoge, also the first man to break the two-hour mark, and Ethiopian great Kenenisa Bekele will headline the men’s race.

The times count towards Olympic qualification for the 2020 Games in Tokyo which have been delayed by 12 months.
