The athletics family in Kenya is mourning the death of the former world under 20 800m champion Kipyegon Bett.
His sister Purity Kirui, the 2014 Commonwealth Games 3,000m champion confirmed that Bett was no more.
“Yes whatever you have heard is true. He is gone,” said Purity who also competes for the Kenya defence Forces.
Bett, also the 800m bronze medalist at the 2017 World Championships in London died on Sunday night while undergoing treatment at the Tenwek Hospital in Bomet County.
According to Purity, the late Bett suffered from failed kidneys and lungs
