Kipyegon, Chebet and Chelimo storm to 5,000m final at Paris Olympic Games

Double Olympic Games 1,500m champion Faith Kipyegon, double world cross country champion Beatrice Chebet and double world 5,000m silver medalist Margaret Kipkemboi Chelimo have qualified to compete at the finals of the women’s 5,000m at the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris, France.

Competing in heat one, Kipyegon won the race ahead of defending champion Sifa Hassan, Chelimo, and the 5,00m world record holder Gudaf Tsegay, Hassan, Chelimo

Kipyegon won the heat in 14:57.56 ahead of Hassan’s 14:57.65 with Italian Nadia Battocletti completing the podium at 14:57.65

The trio of Chelimo, Tsegay and Ejgayehu Taye finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively to qualify into the final.

Competing in heta 2, The Commonwealth Games 5,000m Chebet winning the heat in 15:00.73.

The reigning world 10,000m record holder edged out Medina Eisa who finished second in 15:00.82 with Australian Rose David completed the podium 15:00:86.
