The pair of Mary Moraa and Lilian Odira have stormed into the semifinals of the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris, France.
The reigning world 800m champion Moraa and national 800m champion Odira finished second in their heats to earn the ticket for the semifinals as Kenya will be seeking to win gold medal for a long time. However, it was dissaponting for another Kenya Vivian Chebet who missed the cut.
The first heat saw Briton Jemma Reekie dominate from gun to tape to take the top honours in a stunning 2:00.00 ahead of Gabriela Gajanova and Juliette Whittaker who finished second and third in respective times of 2:00.29 and 2:00.45.
Competing in heat three Chebet, on her debut at the Olympiclost the battle to Phoebe Gill and Ethiopia’s Worknesh Mesele, Renelle Lamote .
Time for Moraa came in in heat five, finishing second in 1:57.95 as Tsige Duguma won the race in an impressive 1:57.90. Shafiqua Maloney completed the podium at 1:58.23.
Odira (1:58.83) managed third position in heat 6 that was won by Jamaica’s Natoya Goule-Toppin (1:58.66) followed by Claudia Hollingsworth (1:58.77).
