Defending champion Moses Koskei will be seeking back-to-back titles during the Kenya Seed Classic at the 18-hole Kitale Golf Club this weekend.
The Nyahururu golfer defeated Kitale’s Ruth Kae in the play-off to win the coveted 36-hole golf tournament, whose ultimate prize was a heifer.
Koskei said he will travel to Kitale on Friday morning on a mission to defend the title against home players in one of the biggest golf tournaments in Trans Nzoia.
“I am well prepared to defend my title. I have been training well here at Nyahururu and I will be heading to Kitale on Friday morning to defend the title,” said Koskei.
Koskei produced a superlative performance in the last 18-hole play-off, firing a birdie to edge out Kae. The duo had tied on 144 nett and they had to battle it out on holes 10, 17 and 18 to determine the outright winner.
“It was a tough challenge playing 36 holes but right now, I have prepared well after winning several tournaments both at home and away. This has sharpened my skills,” he said.
Kae dropped a shot on 10th, the former lady captain losing 1-up against Koskei when he fired a par with Kae dropping a shot in the 17th.
“Last year it was my first time to play in the Kenya Seed golf series and a win was a plus for me. Now that I know the challenges and the competitive nature of the tournament, I have to ensure that I counter them to progress,” he added.
With the rain pounding in the region, he said the course at the moment will be playable.
“I expect the course to be good because of the rains but since I have not played on it for some time, my prayer is that we enjoy the game at the end of the day,” he said.
