Njeri wins Kenya Seed golf title in Eldoret

Kitale golfer Josephine Njeri recorded her maiden golf title when she was crowned the champion of the second leg of Kenya Seed Company played at the nine-hole Eldoret golf club over the weekend.

Njeri won the coveted prize after carding a solid 47 stable ford points in a tournament that attracted 130 players on the par 71 golf course.

Teeing off at handicap 52, Njeri edged out home player Susan Bett to second. In the opening nine, she started off badly with back-to-back double bogeys, followed by bogeys and double bogeys on her way to victory.

She said that it was her maiden title since she started her golf career. She said that it was humbling that she could play such good gold and win away from home.

“I did not expect to win and I am so overwhelmed. The number of top golfers on the course were high as well as professional at the tournament but I attribute the win to the regular practice and guidance from members of Kitale Club,” she said.

The company’s managing Director Fred Oloibe said that their intention is to play and plant the seed on the farm and play golf at the same time.

He said that Eldoret and it’s environment is a strategic and key region for the company in producing certified quality seeds and one of the key business regions in our seed business.

“We came to say thank you to our farmers and we appreciate the support Eldoret/ Uasin Gishu region has given us over the years. We will continue supporting the tournament annually and for this season we assure all our farmers there is enough seed for purchase since these rains have started,” said Oloibe.

The tournament attracted over 130 golfers from host club Eldoret, Kitale, Nandi,Kericho and Kenya Railway Club.

Head of communications, Jane Gitau attributed the high turnout was due to the well arrangement and coordination the event experienced and the timely marking of the event since it’s a planting season.

The Kenya Seed Golf series lands next to Kitale on 25/26 March 2023 for the Kenya seed golf classic whereby golfers across the region are expected to play for a heifer.
