Twenty young footballers will be the first beneficiaries of Duke Abuya Sports Centre Academy that will be set up in Eldoret.
Abuya, who plays for Nkana FC in Zambia will be setting up a football centre in Eldoret to help in nurturing young footballers in future.
The man, who played for both former Kenya Premier league champions Mathare United and Kariobangi Sharks said the centre will be the training base for kids who should not miss out on training facilities as he did at his young age.
”Since I have grown up in Uasin Gishu county and played my football here, I have decided to start a soccer centre that will help nurture young talent from grass root to the top footballers across the country and the world,” said Abuya.
The midfielder began his football career while at the Eldoret based GFE 105 before making his way to Kenya Premier league teams.
He said the foundation is a way of giving back to the community, the place he learnt his football skills before venturing into international football.
“I used to play here while growing up, training centres used to be challenging and I never wanted this generation to strain too as he used to,” explained Abuya.
He said that the purpose of the soccer centre is to grow, mold and help the young talented kids to achieve their dreams.
“Am planning to build and develop a centre where the kids will be camping, boarding and schooling at the same time,” he said.
“We have managed to pick players born from 2008 so that we can have under 14 and below. After the selection we have managed to identify 24 kids who will be starting official training over the weekend,” he said.
