Kenya Prisons service Man Peter Kamau Mwangi has won the first gold for Kenya at the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships at the Gainesville Florida in the USA.
Making his debut at the indoor championships, Mwangi managed to haul 14:79m in shot put men between 40-44 years.

“This is a totally different field of play. I had never competed in the indoors before but a win has come in handy at my debut. This is a good start for me,” said Mwangi while in the USA.
He said that the experience was a tough one and hard to tackle, however, victory was a consolation for the prison warder who has been competing in various Athletics Kenya track and field weekend meetings.
“This is my first time to compete in indoors, the experience was hard for me because I am used to outdoors. The fields are different but winning gold for Kenya on my first attempt at the championships was great,” said Mwangi.
He led American Pierre Brown to second at 13:18 followed by compatriot Robert Horton Jr at 12:71m.
“I throw a very short distance that I have never thrown in Kenya. Having my personal best of 16:74m during the masters trials at Kenyatta University,” said Mwangi.
