Leaders seeking football management in Uasin Gishu County in the coming Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections will be scrutinized at a public debate set for this Friday at Eldoret Social Hall.
The top five positions, Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, women representative and Youth representatives will have to put their agenda on the table for scrutiny by members of the public, team officials, referees, coaches, players and football stakeholders to explain why they want to serve the public and their manifestos.
Fredrick Owino, the man who is the brainchild for the debate said Uasin Gishu county, which is now a branch, has many teams came up with the idea for the public to elect the best man or women into office.
“We had a big problem in Uasin Gishu after electing leaders who have no football at heart. They also lacked focus in all football matters that is why we came up with debate idea,” said Owino.
With the County has been promoted to a branch according to the new FKF constitution, down from a sub-branch, Owino said they will have a say at the national office and they want people who can represent their issues.
“With the new constitution, the branch will be funded from the national office and we want people with integrity to serve in that branch office. We want an office with structures and they have to tell us in that debate the structures they will put in place, what they will do in the next four years. If they don’t meet the people’s expectations then we vote them out” added Owino.
According to the list, Chairman Uasin Gishu chairman Paul Tororei will be defending his seat as well as secretary Edwin Barasa.
Tororei will be facing off with his vice-chairman Peter Chesang, Solomon Tanui and John Muiruri while Barasa will be competing against former secretary Joshua Ariko of Eldoret Falcons women team, Oliver Kiptoo of Langas Super Stars and Enock Mukoma.
