Rising Stars stun Djibouti to move second ahead of final pool match

Rising Stars, the Kenya’s under 20 team yesterday produced a stellar performance to beat Djibouti in their third pool A match at the ongoing CECAFA cum AFCON qualifiers in Da es Salaam, Tanzania.

The Salim Babu side were 4-0 winners against their opponents to increase their chances of making it to the semifinals when Hassan Beja, Lawrence Okoth and a brace by Kelvin Wangaya were enough for the victoty.

Beja broke the deadlock in the 4th minute with Wangaya doubling and his first for 2-0 in the 10th minute as Wangaya made it 3-0 in the 25th minute before Okoth scored the 4th.

With the victory, Kenya lies second in the pool with 7 points after three matches behind the hosts Tanzania who are on 9 points from four matches in a pool that consist of five nations.

Kenya started the championships qualifiers with a 2-1 win over Tanzania followed by a barren draw with Rwanda and a 4-0 win over Djibouti

Sudan has 6 points Rwanda 1 and Djibouti zero after playing three matches each.

Uganda leads pool B with 7 points from three matches, followed by Burundi with 6, South Sudan 4 and Ethiopia 0 after all teams had played all their three matches.
