Rutto and Lagat win Rome marathon with course records

Asbel Rutto and Ivyne Laget were the winners today’s Rome marathon held today morning in Rome, Italy.

Rutto won with the course record and personal best of 2:06.23, leading a podium sweep for Kenyans when Brian Kipsang and Sila Kiptoo crossed the finish line in 2:07.54 and 2:08.08 for second and third positions respectively.

There were similar results in women when little known Ivyne Lagat led Lydia Naliaka Simiyu to a 1-2 Kenyan finish.

Lagat won in 2:24.35 with Naliaka coming second at 2:25.09 while Ethiopian Emebet Niguse completed the podium in 2:26.40.
