Reigning Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) champion Samuel Noroge sunk two eagles to boost his way to win the Railways Invitation, the 6th leg of KAGC series held over the weekend on par 72 Kenya Railways club.
Playing on home course, Njoroge fired five under par 139 to claim the 6th meeting title to lift the title ahead of Vet lab’s Robinson Owiti who fired three over par 147 with Mombasa’s Mathew Omondi, with Owiti prevailing over Omondi on count back.
He started with five pars, dropped a shot in one birdied in second par 4 and dropped three shots in the back nine but he fired an eagle in the 18th hole par 5 after sinking seven pars and a bogey in the front nine in his first round with two over par 74 on Saturday.
In the first round, he sunk seven under par 65 on Sunday, he started with a par in hole one par 5, he birdied in 2, and 3 pars 4, bogeyed in 4 par 3 and parred in 5, 6, 7, 8 and nine in the front nine and returned with an eagle on 10th par 5, parred on 11th, birdied 12th and 13th parred in 14th, 15th and 17th with birdies in 16th and 18th.
Njoroge who played Kenya Open, missing the cut with two shots said he wants to play again come next year.
“My target is to play at Kenya Open next year. I missed the cut with two shots but I want to play well next year,” said Njoroge.
At Kenya Open, Sogona Bowl champion played after he managed two over par 146, added that the tournament was good hence getting more points.
“I enjoyed the game throughout that is why I had better scores than my competitors,” added Njoroge.
With four meetings played so far, Njoroge has managed to win three out of four. He won the opener, the Mount Kenya Championships held on par 72 Nyeri golf club, went ahead to lift Sigona Bowl and now Railways Invitation.
