The reigning World Half marathon champion Sebastian Kimaru Sawe set a new course record following his victory at the 2024 Prague Half marathon held on Sunday in Czech Republic.
After finishing 8th at last Saturday’s World cross country championships in Belgrade, Serbia, Sawe won the title in a course record of 58:24, breaking a 12 year old record set in 2012 by Ethiopian Atsedu Tsegay at 58:47.
After the victory, Sawe said that it was a good thing setting his personal best.
“I came here with a purpose of winning but I added another crown of setting my personal best in my favourite event,” said sawe.
Heading for the race at personal best of 58:29 with his victory at the Bahrain Night Half marathon in 2022, Sawe led a 1-2-3-4-5 podium sweep for Kenyans with Geoffrey Toroitich Kipchumba coming second in 60:02 followed by Patrick Kabirech Mosin (60:15) for podium sweep as Gideon Kiprotich Rop (60:45) and Jackson Kavesa Muena (62:00) were in positions 4th and 5th in an all Kenyan affair.
Kenya’s Jesca Chelangat was second in the women’s race after clocking 68:13 behind the champion Gete Alemayechu from Ethiopia who won the title in 68:10.
