Former and reigning World U20 3,000m steeplechase champions Amos and Edmund Serem are set to light up the 2026 Kip Keino Classic, the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, on April 24 at Nyayo National Stadium.
Amos, the 2021 world U20 champion in Nairobi, will renew the family rivalry with his younger brother Edmund, who won the 2024 crown in Lima, Peru. Their showdown has already been confirmed as one of the headline attractions in the men’s steeplechase, with Amos returning from injury and eager to make a statement on home soil.
On the women’s side, Olympic and world steeplechase bronze medallist Faith Cherotich will also be one to watch under the floodlights. Fresh from another podium finish at the SOYA Awards, Cherotich has already signaled her focus on the Kip Keino Classic, promising a thrilling battle in the water-and-barriers race.
Sprint star Ferdinand Omanyala and Olympic/world 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi will lead Kenya’s charge in the sprints and middle-distance races respectively, while Lilian Odira is also expected to fly the national flag. Organisers have confirmed that this year’s seventh edition will, for the first time, be held on a Friday evening under floodlights from 4pm to 9pm, unlike previous Saturday editions.
The Serem brothers’ duel, Omanyala’s sprint fireworks and Wanyonyi’s presence should make this one of the most exciting Kip Keino Classics yet in Nairobi.
