Six teams, two girls’ and four Boys’ booked their tickets for the Western Branch finals following their triumph in the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom football tournament held over the in various fields.
Lusengeli Secondary School and Kigandole Queens were the only women qualifiers while Ebbu Stars, Wakongwe, Busia Wolves and The Saints all won sub branch titles to book their places in the final pre Western region qualifying round.
The six join two qualified girls teams; Red Commandoes (Butere-Mumias sub branch) and Ibinzo Girls (Kakamega Sub branch) who lifted their respective titles during the second round of games in the past weekend.
The four boys and four girls winners will enter a final round of games to provide two boys and two girls teams that will qualify for the regional finals set for Buhungu Stadium in mid-January 2019. A similar number will be provided by North Western Branch who had a break this weekend. They play their penultimate round of games next weekend to identify winners for Teso, Mt. Elgon, Bungoma and Lugari sub branches.
For a place in the final Ebbu Stars beat Shaviringa 1-0 in the semis as Pythons beat Mumboha 2-0. At the same venue, Lusengeli received their title after a well worked 6-0 dispatch of Khwiliba Ladies.
Busia Wolves continued their impressive stride by seeing off a Felix Aucho-coached Teens of Hope 2-0 at the Busia Stadium to qualify for the pre-regional round. Geoffrey Maende was the toast for the Wolves as he buried home a brace to send the Wolves past a promising Teens of Hope side full of youngings.
At Odiado Primary school, Kigandole Queens had a narrow 1-0 escape over The Lioness to be declared the Busia sub branch winner. Brenda Nekesa scored the separating goal.
On this same day, at Butere Primary, The Saints curved out a 3-0 win over Shiongo for the Butere-Mumias sub branch title.
