Hot firing Samuel Njoroge beats big field to clinch Lagos Amateur Open title

Kenyan golfer Samuel Njoroge fired three over par to in the 57th edition the prestigious Lagos Amateur Golf Open tournament played over the weekend on par 72 Ikoyi Club 1968 in Lagos, Nigeria.

The Kenya Amateur Strokeplay champion sunk three over par in the first round on Saturday before playing level on the second round to claim the title in the West African country.

Coming from Kenya Railways Club, Njoroge said he was happy to be invited to compete in the tournament, travelling all the way to Nigeria and come home with a win.

β€œIt was my first time to to play in Lagos Open and I had to practice well for the tournament after he was invited,” said Njoroge, the winner of Tea Field title, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships series (KAGC) in Kericho.

The Hippo Pot champion added that the Course was in good condition after he did some practice before playing round one.

Lately Njoroge has been on fire and won the Karen Trophy title at Karen in the KAGC calendar.

β€œI was able to do my practice round on Friday and I had confidence I was to win and I won,” added Njoroge who was the first amateur player to make the cut into the 2019 Kenya Open golf tournament after winning Kenya Amateur Stroke play title in Sigona.
