Sum optimistic Kenya Team will earn more medals in Tokyo

Team Kenya Captain Eunice Sum is optimistic that Kenya will harvest more medals compared to the previous Games in the ongoing Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

The former world 800m champion Sum will lead Kenyan athletes in the 800m round one on Friday morning in the qualifying round world under 18 400m silver medalist Mary Moraa and Emily Tuei in a race littered with many in-form athletes. They will be facing off with world champion and Ugandan Halima Nakaayi, Sudanese-American youngster Athing Mu.

The African champion believes that as a team they are up to the task, going to perform better than the last Olympic Games in 2016.

“We have been used to crowds cheering us but now we have to follow the said rules. I know we will be cheered even without seeing our fans. Our prayers is to see team Kenya perform better than other Olympics. It will be my great achievement to see them going home with many medals than the previous one. I would like to see ball games to go an extra mile to win medals,” said Sum.

As a captain, she said that it was an opportunity well-presented over her shoulder and many medal win will be great for her.

“I can’t take this opportunity granted upon me and am equal to the task and am happy to be given this position,” said Sum.

She added that arriving in Tokyo two days ago, the weather has been good.

“The hot weather may not affect us much because we have been in other championships like Doha where it was harsher than this. I know I will have good time to run. Am always prepared. You know championships is always championships and am very well prepared to reach the finals.”
