Tanzania Open: Siblings Robinson Owiti, Hesbon Kutwa on mission

Kenyan top amateur golfer Robinson Owiti will join his elder brother Hesbon Kutwa, a professional golfer in this year’s Tanzania Open Golf Championships to be staged at KiliGolf Resort in Arusha, Tanzania.

Owiti, the former Kenya team captain playing as an amateur said he is well prepared for the event that kicks off on Friday until Sunday where 72 holes will be played on the par 72 golf course.

“I have prepared myself well for the event and I want to promise good results,” said Owiti as they prepare to leave the country today (Wednesday) evening for the East Africa biggest country.

Coming from Vetlab, he will be joined by other amateur golfers Edwin Mdanyi, who last weekend won Manchester Salver golf tournament, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships event in Eldoret with two over 144.

Other amateurs to travel to Arusha include Mike Kisia (Vetlab), the third finisher at Manchester and Simon Njoroge from Railways Club.

The amateurs will play 18 holes on Friday, followed by 36 holes on Saturday before ending with 18 holes on Sunday.

On the pros side, Kutwa will join other golfers from Kenya led by long hitter Dismas Indiza (Mumias), Simon Ngige (Thika Sports), Mathew Omondi (Vetlab), Richard Anley (Nakuru) and new kid in the big league Jeff Kubwa from Muthaiga.

The pros led by Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Captain John Wangai  will also be in contention for the big prize of kshs 800,000 where East Africa Golfers will play 72 holes, playing two rounds of 36 holes on Friday, followed by third round on Saturday and summarize with the 4th round on Sunday playing 18 holes in each round.

Ngige will be taking on the high stake following his win of  Diani Beach Masters at leisure Lodge Beach and Golf Resort two weeks ago. Other traveling pros include Nelson Simwa, Jacob Okello, Sullivan Muthugia, Kopan Timbe, Justus Madoya, David Wakhu, Joseph Karanja, Frank Matilo, Tony Omuli, Anil Shah, Eric Ooko and Mohit Madiratta.
