Top Amateurs face off at Kenya Amateur Strokeplay in Sigona

Samuel Njoroge is targeting to lift the 2018 Kenya Amateur Strokeplay championships that get underway this Friday on par 72 Sigona Golf club.

After winning Tea Fields golf tournament over the weekend, Njoroge will be looking for another win to make it for 2019 Kenya Open Golf tournament.

Golfers will be facing a grueling 72 holes that kicks off on Friday 19th to Sunday 21st that counts towards the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) ranking and the world Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) has attracted over 84 golfers.

Top amateurs expected to battle it out for the prestigious title with Njoroge leading notable golfers like the 2017 Kenya Amateur Golf Championship Winner Edwin Mudanyi from Vet Lab Sports Club, club mate long hitting Mike Kisia, Kenya Amateur Golf Championship leader John Karichu from Limuru Country club will also be in contestant.

Youthful golfers eyeing the trophy includes the top Junior Mutahi Kibugu from Muthaiga Golf Club, fellow club mate Zubair Khan, the two Juniors represented the country in the 2018  Victoria Cup and performed exemplary well.

The Kenya Golf Union is expecting entries from the neighbouring countries: Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda who like in 2017 are expecting to put pressure to the Kenyan top amateurs.

The first round of this event gets underway from 12pm on Friday 19th Oct 2018, followed by 36 holes on Saturday 20th and finally the last 18 holes played on Sunday 21st Oct 2018.

The winner of this event will automatically get a slot to participate in the Barclays Kenya Open 2019 and the Karen Masters 2019 subject to meeting each tours requirements.

The tournament has attracted top Tanzanian player, Abbas Adam and Uganda’s Joel Basalaine, who was among the amateurs, who made cut during the recent Uganda Open at Entebbe Golf Club, Uganda.

Others drawn for Sigona competition include Royal Nairobi’s Jay Sandhu, Railway’s John Lejirmah, Robinson Owiti.

Njoroge won back to back meetings with Nyanza Open championships popularly called Hippo pot at Nyanza club, went ahead to lift Karen Challenge Trophy at Karen Golf club a week later.

“There was much rain on the course but I managed to endure and became the winner. Now my target is to win Kenya Amateur Strokeplay this weekend to qualify for Kenya Open. At the same time, I want to win at least two of the remaining five KAGC meetings to make it to Kenya Open,” said Njoroge.
