Tororei tipped as a new champion will be crowned at Eldoret’s Manchester Salver

A new champion is set to be crowned at the Manchester Salver, the Kenya Amateur Golf champions (KAGC) meeting that tees off this Saturday on par 71 Eldoret Golf club.

The 2019 champion Daniel Nduva, who will not be defending his title has given a chance for another golfer to win the annual title despite missing the 2020 edition due to coronavirus.

Host captain Nathan Tororei will lead other top club golfers in hunt for points at the World Amateurs Ranking ahead of 2022 Magical Kenya Open.

The golfers will be subjected to 36 holes in two rounds that tees off on Saturday morning for a first round 18-hole before completing on Sunday with others 18 holes.

Lakhani, who only played one event during the Nandi Open Shield at Nandi Bears said that, as much as they are playing at home, they need to showcase their good effort to deny visitors a chance to carry the title away.

“As home players, we need to play at the top most to keep the trophy at home. As much as I may not have many expectations, we have to secure good results,” said Lakhani.

Reigning captain Tororei was optimistic that they will take home advantage as they expect a big number especially from the neighbouring clubs like Kitale, Nandi Bears, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Nakuru among others.

“As a club, we are prepared very well to receive at least 120 golfers on the course. We have prepared our course very well in readiness for the big day,” said Tororei.

He added that being his first Kenya Golf Union (KGU) event as a captain, he wants the event to be successful after missing out last year due to the coronavirus.

However, the hosts will have to contain series leader Adel Balala and second placed Michael Karanga.
