Wamira siblings dominates as DAAK name World Deaf Championships team

Wamira siblings David, Beryl and Rael will lead Kenyan deaf runners at the World Deaf Athletics Championships to be held in Lublin, Poland.

Today, the Deaf Athletics Association of Kenya (DAAK) selected 36 athletes during the national trials that came to an end today at Nyayo National stadium to fly the Kenyan flag at the championships set for August 23th to 28th.

The Wamira children David, Beryl and Rael booked Poland tickets after finishing first and second in 100m women’s 100m in 12:7 and 13:4 respectively.

Simon Menza will triple at the championships after winning both 100m, 200m and 400m.

He won 100m in 11:2 ahead of David Wamira and Walter Malenje timed 11:5 and 11:7 to finish second and third respectively.

Menza went ahead to win men’s 200m in 23:3 beating Wamira and Charles Muthama in 23:7 and 24:0 respectively. He completed the triple with a win in 400m when he clocked 50:9 ahead of Isaac Atima (51.3) and George Waweru in 51:6.

Experienced Simon Kibai rule the 5000m men’s in 14:49 ahead of David Kipkego in 15:05 and Martin Gache who was third by clocking 15:11 to meet all the World Deaf Athletics Championships qualifying time of 16:10.00.

Peter Toroitich won the 10,000m in 31:46:00 ahead of Martin Gache Daniel Kiptum who were second and third timing 31:48 and 31:53 respectively.

John Koech dominated men’s 1500m in 3:59 beating Elkana Kiprop (4:00.1) and Kokobi Omari (4:00.7).
