Wanjala to captain Junior Stars at CECAFA/AFCON qualifiers

Amos Wanjala will captain the Junior Stars, the national under 20 football team ahead of the CECAFA under 20 tournament cum AFCON qualifiers in Tanzania

Today, head coach Salim Babu named the final 20 men squad that will travel to Tanzania with the tournament set to kick off on October 6th to 20th.

The regional tournament will serve as Kenya’s pathway to qualify for the AFCON U-20 tournament for the first time in the nation’s history.

Also in the mix is Aldrine Kibet who was in last year’s CECAFA U18 Boys Championship.

The team, which has been training in Thika, Kiambu County, leads pool A alongside the hosts Tanzania, Rwanda, Sudan, and Djibouti.

They open the tournament against Tanzania on October 6.

Defending champions Uganda will compete in Group B, which also includes South Sudan, Burundi, and Ethiopia.

Goalkeepers: Ibrahim Wanzala, Joshua Keya

Defenders: Baron Ochieng, Manzur Suleiman, Jackson Imbiakha, Joseph Bate, Amos Wanjala and Rodgers Obusu.

Midfielders: Stanley Wilson, Tyron Kariuki, Kelly Madada, William Gitamu, Phabian Sheldon, Andres Odhiambo and Kevin Wanganya.

Strikers: Louise Ingavi, Aldrine Kibet, Lawrence Okoth, Hassan Beja and Dalphene Ezekiah.
