Double Olympic Games champion Beatrice Chebet has echoed the efforts made by the organizers of the Great Chepsaita Cross Country Championships set for December 7th at the Chepsaita ground in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County.
Speaking today during the press conference, Chebet said that she was happy at the progress made by the organizers in order to improve, not only in athletics and sports but education too.
“I am happy for the organizers of such event are to motivate and nurture young people’s talents. Apart from running, we also have education that means as a country, we shall produce top whole persons,” said Chebet.
The race Patron Farouk Kibet has called in corporate world and other sponsors to come on board to build the cross country to benefit locals, who not only from Uasin Gishu county but Nandi, Bungoma, Kakamega and Trans Nzoia counties.
“We are calling upon sponsors to come and showcase their services. This race is in the village but we are going to change the environment of the local community not just at the local and we are not going to stop. We are happy that we have reached Golden Label and this is not just running but empowering people,” said Kibet.

He added that their target is to run and improve on education in the area, urging people that if they can education and have talent to take them far.
“Many people see the need to run but not education that is why we have managers manipulating them. We want them to uplift locals and other things in life,” he said.
Event director Barnaba Korir said that it is a good experience for young people who are motivated to see great athletes talking and competing to them, which shows that when an athlete is focused they will harvest big.
“Let us follow the roots of those who have succeeded in both athletics and education and they can change lives in various ways. The venue has changed and going forward, the event will be better,” said Korir.
On athletes registration, he said that in the elite level, they have hit the target. “We have a better course. We have reached the target of what we wanted the only remaining part are the juniors and old people of 60 and above,” he said.
