Betika pump millions into CECAFA Kagame Cup as Kenya Police face Singida in a draw

Kenya Premier League champions Kenya Police FC will be facing off with Tanzanian giants Singida Black Stars following today’s draw with betting firm Betika announced as the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) kagame Cup Official Sponsor.

 Police, who recorded their maiden title victory will lead pool A with Singida at the regional inter-club competition is set to take place from September 2nd to September 15th in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

According to the draw released today in Nairobi, 12 teams will be battling out for the glory. Police and Singida will be up against Ethiopian Premier League giants Ethiopia Coffee, and Garde Cotes FC, champions of Djibouti.

Betika pumped in Kshs 42 million into the tournament with Betika CEO Mutua Mutava saying that football is more than a game, a powerful force that unites communities and sparks passion across borders.

“But our vision goes beyond one team, we are proud that Betika will also be represented in Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Uganda, and our local teams will be on the ground throughout the tournament to ensure players, clubs, and fans feel our full support. This sponsorship is not just about funding football; it’s about investing in people, building connections across nations, and giving the region’s immense talent a platform to shine. Our commitment is to provide the resources, visibility, and experiences that will make this Kagame Cup the most memorable yet,” said Mutava.

With the draw, Rwanda Premier League champions APR FC leads pool B alongside Uganda’s Vipers SC, Burundi’s Flambeau du Centre, and South Sudan’s El Merreikh SC Bentiu

Group C consists of Sudanese Al Hilal Omdurman, Al Ahly SC Wad Madani, Mogadishu City Club, champions of the Somalia Premier League, and Kator SC from South Sudan.

Last year, Zambia’s Red Arrows, a guest team, defeated Rwanda’s APR FC on penalties to lift the title in Dar es Salaam.

The Kagame Cup named in honor of H.E. Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, a long-time patron of the tournament has grown into a premier football event in East and Central Africa. Beyond the fierce on-pitch competition, the tournament embodies sports diplomacy, cultural exchange, and regional unity through the love of football.
