Former national team golfer Daniel Nduva needed six rare birdies to claim the overall title at the 2017 Stanbic golf tournament played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club course in Mombasa on Saturday.
Playing off handicap 1, the home golfer posted 39 stableford points to emerge the overall winner in the day long stable ford event.
In both nines, Nduva started off on high note by sinking a rare birdie on the first par five hole before adding five more birdies.
He then rolled eight level pars and bogeyed the rest of the four holes to register his first major victory.
“It’s a good start for me this year. I thank my playing partners and the sponsors and hopefully my golf will get better and better,” said Nduva.
Mombasa’s handicap 23 Miqdad Walji on a count back score of 37 points was the runner-up after tying on the same score with third-placed home’s handicap 8 Aliabbas Jaffer.
Handicap 26 Farida Saeed from Nyali was the lady winner on 33 points and Railways handicap 34 Caroline Mokaya was the runner-up on 32 points.
School boy Andrew Wahome also from Nyali playing off handicap 24 was the best junior on 36 points and the Best Senior prize was claimed by club mate handicap 20 Sal Davis who had a score of 32 points.
At Kiambu Course, Sam Kiarie playing off handicap 24 was the winner on a count back score of 38 points during the Chairman year opener on Saturday.
He had tied on the same score with handicap 5 Stephen Kiaro who was the men winner. Handicap 14 Pius Mworia on a count back score of 37 points after tying on the same score with handicap 16 Mukuria Ragui, were the men runner-up and third-placed respectively.
Handicap 3 Michael Karanga was the gross winner on 75 gross and taking the Guest prize on 37 points and the Sponsor’s prize on 31 points were handicap 14 Francis Mungai and handicap 17 Allan Gicheru respectively.
Martin Nyaga playing off handicap 13 was the Mountain classic winner on 34 points and the Piga Mingi prize on 13 points was won by handicap 28 J K Waweru.
