Africa rugby sevens champions South Africa ended Lionesses-the national rugby sevens team-the journey for next year’s HSBC World rugby series today during the Hong Kong qualifiers.
Lionesses, who beat South Africa 24-12 in pool A final match, failed to contain the continental champions when the champions beat Lionesses 12-07 in sudden death in the semifinal match, failing to play at the final hence missing out on 2018/2019 series.
Andiswa Ndawonde ended Lionesses journey with her try in the sudden death send South Africa to the final match after a 7-7 tie in normal time.
Initially Kenya had topped pool A to qualify into quarters where they beat Argentina 17-12 also in sudden death by Doreen Remour before meeting South Africa again at the semifinal.
South African Zenay Jordaan broke the deadlock with a converted try in the second half after a barren draw in first half. But Kenya’s Janet Okello crossed the try line that was converted by Remour.
In the semifinal, Sofia Gonzalez made unconverted try before Sinaida Aura’s unconverted try leveled for kenya at 5-5 for water break.
Okello gave the Lionesses the lead with a try but Gonzalez scored a converted try to tie things up at full time.
But Remour found the try line in sudden death, setting up a repeat clash in the semi-final against South Africa.
