Chipu fell to champions Japan in their last pool A match in the ongoing world Rugby under 20 Trophy in Brazil last night.
After beating hosts 23-26 in the second match, Kenya needed a win against Japan to compete at the main Cup but fell short, going down 48-34 and was relegated to Classification match and will play Canada on Sunday.
The Paul Odera led side had lost the opening match to Uruguay 63-11. Japan, who won all their matches, will face Portugal in the final.
Chipu in the early stages, with a try from Halatoa Vailea for a 7-0 lead for Japan but they responded with a penalty from Dominic Coulson to narrow the gap to 7-3.
Syohei Tsujimura extended the lead with his try as Taihei Kusaka made the third try for a 19-3 lead with Kenya pulling through Hibrahim Ayoo with Coulson and John Okoth with an unconverted try to reduce the margin to 19-8.
Vailea made his second try for a 24-8 at half time as Chipu’s Coulson kicked over the conversion for a 24-15. Vailea completed his hat-trick just before the interval as the Japanese led 31-15.
Geoffrey Okwatch scored a brace of tries with Ian Masheti scoring one try as the gallant team fought hard. Japan was awarded a penalty try and consolidated their position with two further tries in the closing minutes of the match.
