Reigning world under 18 800m silver medalist Lydia Jeruto and former Commonwealth Games 3,000m champion Richard Kimunyan will be leading Baringo County in this Saturday’s Central Rift Athletics Kenya championships at The University of Eldoret track and field.
Jeruto, who is graduating from the two-lap race to 5,000m will be using the championships in build-up for the All Africa Games championships to be held in Morocco next month.
The championships will be used to select a formidable team to represent the region at the national trial where Athletics Kenya will be selecting a team for the IAAF world championships in Doha, Qatar.
Also notable regulars will Kimunyan who is in the training camp ahead of All Africa Games championships as well as Justus Soget, who will be 1,500m while Qualine Kiprop, also in Kenya team will be chasing 1,500m title.
Cross country runner Faith Ling’aa will be competing for 10,000m title as well as Agnes Jebet of kimwogo secondary school.
But there will be a host of juniors at the championships led by Africa Youth 3,000m gold medalist Emmanuel Kiplagat, his counterpart Africa Youth 3,000m bronze medalist Gideon Rono who will be competing in 10,000m and 5,000m respectively. Others are Judy Chepkoech, the 800m silver at Africa youth Olympics games, in 400m and 800m, Judy Kurui in 3,000 steeplechase after winning Africa Youth Olympic 20000m title as well as David Sanayek in 400m and 800m.
