Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls High school is set to shine at home when they host this year’s Kenya Schools Lacrosse Open championships.
The Kakamega based school to battle out with seven other schools in the Saturday championships that has attracted three foreign teams-Uganda’s Canaan and USA’s Messiah College.
Hosts Mukumu leads pool A that has Canaan and Shibale girls as the Kenya Lacrosse Association will be using the event to sharpen the girls’ skills ahead of World under 19 Lacrosse championships in Canada in August.
Rashid Makokha, the Mukumu girls’ head of Co-curricular department said the tournament will be great for the girls who will be preparing for world championships.
“We are going to have a very competitive event on Saturday. When the schools will complete their championships, we will have the international event between Kenya, Uganda and USA battling for a title,” said Makokha.
The game, which was first introduced in Western Kenya, has attracted other schools to compete in the country. Kenya team will be traveling to Canada for world under 19 championships in August. Apart from representing the nation, Kenya will also be the only Africa representative at the championships.
“After we are through with this tournament, the girls will return to their respective schools before we resume training later in the year to prepare for the world event,” added Makokha.
Maraba girls’ leads pool B consisting Khalaba and Shitoto Girls while football giants Bishop Sulumet is in pool C together Moi Girls Eldoret and Moi Girls Nangili.
“This tournament is good for the girls who are preparing for face the world in August,” said Makokha.
