The reigning world cross country champion Agnes Chebet Ngetich set a new women-only world half marathon at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark today.
Ng’etich smashed the world record at 65:15 that was then held by fellow Kenyan Peres jepchirchir, took one second off the world record for a women-only race of 1:05:16 set by her compatriot Peres taking off a second when she won the world half marathon title in Gdynia in 2020.
She dominated the race by beating her country mate Veronica Loleo to second for silver 66:05 and . Rwanda’s Florence Niyonkuru claimed bronze in a national record of 66:08, five seconds ahead of Daisilah Jerono.
in men’s half marathon, Kenya’s Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli settled for silver behind Sweden’s Andreas Almgren.
Almgren improved his own European record by 35 seconds to move to ninth on the world all-time list after winning with five seconds ahead of Kipkorir, while Uganda’s multiple Olympic and world champion Joshua Cheptegei got bronze in a of 58:26.
Ethiopia’s Tadese Worku finished fourth in a PB of 58:35, matching his position at the World Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee in January.
