Nick Okoth leads bigwigs at the boxing semifinals

Former Commonwealth Games boxing bronze medalist Nick Okoth joined other top boxers to advance to the semi-finals during the third leg of the National Boxing League at Uwanja Wa Mbizi in Mombasa.

The New Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Okoth eased passed Benson Kamau of Nairobi Inna lightweight bout. 
Weaving, bobbing and ducking, Okoth a younger sibling of Kuala Lumpur 98 Commonwealth silver medalist Absalom Okinyi, tormented the Nairobi opponent with calculated body shots.
KDF’s  Okoth also a bronze medalist at the Brazaville All Africa Games  said after the fight that he is hoping to make a come back to the national team Hit squad ahead of the games in Morocco. 
“I feel stronger every time I fight. Kamau is a young and promising boxer whom I beat through experience. He had really hard punches so the plan was to avoid his shots every time he attacked,” said Okoth.0
Shaffi Bakari of Police also cruised to the semis after seeing off Thomas Kazungu of Siaya. 
Little known Kazungu on Thursday made the events biggest upset when he defeated international Simon Mulinge of KDF. 
Mulinge’s defeat brought to an end his ambitions for the Kenya team.
Martin Oduor of Police qualified for quarters after defeating Peter Muturi of Dallas in the bantamweight. Another bantamweight fight saw Dennis Muthama of KDF out punched Kennedy Okello of Prisons to cruise into demise.
In the ladies middleweight fight Olympian Elizabeth Andiego stooped Metrin Sagina of Trans Nzoia Country in the first round. The referee stopped the fight to save the Trans
BFK Chairman Anthony Jamal Otieno said the event is Nzoia boxer from further punishment.
Humphrey Ochieng “Jakababa” of Police finally avenged his previous defeat when he saw off Joseph Onyango of Police 2-1.
Boxing Federation of Kenya President Anthony Otieno Jamal said event is being used as a yardstick to finalize the Kenya team to Morocco All Africa Games. 
Jamal added that they will name two teams of which the B squad will be sparring partners.
