Oyende triumph at Nairobi Scrabble Kenya ahead of Jinja encounter

Stima Club’s Allan Oyende maintained his form to clinch the Nairobi Scrabble Kenya Championships title that came to an end yesterday.

The two day event was good for second seed player registering 16 wins and only 2 losses for  a total of 2 wins in the 2022 season.

Oyende said that the win was good as he prepares to defend his Uganda Scrabble title in Jinja next weekend.

“The win has increased my winning ways as I plan to defend my Jinja title starting on Saturday to Sunday in Jinja, Uganda,” said Oyende.

The champion vowed to extend his scrabble clinics to the universities as his effort towards growing the numbers of youth players in scrabble Kenya.

Philip Mutinda of Stima Club was second, with 13 wins. He was also the one that gave Oyende his only 2 losses in that tournament. Mutinda is in imperious form, having won the youth tournament and a cage match between himself and Richard Okechi.

Third place went to Bernard Koyyoko from Acacia club. He won 13 games as well.

In the intermediate division, debutant Ammaar Walji made a name for himself by clinching first place. He won 14.5 games with a massive spread of 870. Ammaar was discovered by Chrispine Okeyo during the Indian Festival games held at Aga Khan Centre earlier this year where he was also first.

Second place went to Michael Ng’ang’a who won 13 games +976 while third place went to Erick Hasenya who won 12.5 games.

In the Open Division, Daniel Mburu of CBK won with 12 wins and a massive spread of 1022.

He was followed by Ronald Kibiwott and Sinclair Nyaruoth in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
