Uasin Gishu leaders seeking Football Kenya Federation (FKF) electoral positions were today scrutinised over their skills ahead of elections next month.
In a public debate held at Eldoret Social Social Hall, leaders said they are ready for the elections to foster the sport in the branch, which is one of the most active sub-branch in managing leagues across the country.
Incumbent chairman Paul Tororei, enjoyed the floor after his and only opponent Peter Chesang, who is also the current vice chairman gave the debate a wide berth, after he accused event organizers for failing to address various issues before the debate.
In Chesang’s absence Tororei told the audience that in his four years, he was at the helm, they ran a successful league that consists of under 13 and under 15, women team in Division Two leagues, and advocated for his reelection as he was ready to serve in his position to ensure that they move to the next hire level.
“Now we are becoming a branch, we are determined to ensure that our branch runs well. So far, we have 15 teams in Division two, hoping to increase to next season. We have the opportunity to promote more teams to Division One and Division Two. Apart from that, we also have women premier league team like Eldoret Falcons and we pray and hope that Raiply that plays in Division one will move to NSL if they work
hard next season,” said Tororei.
Apart from the field, he also fronted to partner with cooperates and the County government to support us so that we have successful football in the branch.
“I want to bring all stakeholders form committees to oversee various leagues. We shall also bring in the coaches, we have trained enough coaches and they will exchange their notes to assist each other for successful,” added the school teacher principal.
He acknowledged that there are some teams that have been locked out of the whole voting process but they will fight until they are recognized and eligible to vote.
“so far we have 24 teams that will vote but there are ten more that we are following up to ensure they vote. Some of them have been playing in various leagues since 2016. We are discussing with the national office to be included in the voting list,” added Tororei.
Fredrick Owino, the man behind the debate was a happy man following a successful event as he advocates for good football in Uasin Gishu.
“The debate was to give all aspirants opportunities to tell clubs and voters what they will do if elected in office. It was also an opportunity for the audience get an opportunity to gauge their leaders that will be elected in office,” said Owino.
The chemistry teacher based at Mwiruti said the session was very interactive, with aspirants who turned up, giving their plans both short and long term plans.
“We are getting into the right direction and in the second debate 8th November where all voters and teams will decide on whom to vote for. Our intention is to get a team with integrity and ethical to run our football because we want to grow as twice as what we have now. We lack a team that plays in KPL for the last 20 years and we want a team that will spearhead our agenda,” he added.
He also advised those who failed to turn up not to fail in the next debate and should get a message that “the debate was very objective, non-partisan and tolerance. There was sober mood for both audience and aspirants.”
