Tumkas, Plateau Girls retain Chapa Dimba titles

Brian Kipruto grabbed a hat trick as Tumkas retained the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom football title played over the weekend.

As Plateau Girls also retained their girls’ title following a 3-0 victory over Lower Kipkaren during girls’ final played at Ainaptich primary school ground.

The fast striker was the hero of the weekend after scoring in all three matches to help his team defend the Uasin Gishu County title.

At the final, he scored all the three goals as Tumkas defeated Uprising 3-1 in the final after he scored a goal each in the semi and quarterfinals against Eldoret City and Skylark respectively.

Plateau retained their girls’ title after defeating Lower Kipkaren 3-0 with goals from Lucy Khamete who scored in the 10th minute, Euphresia Isischi added the second in the 35th minute and Ann Simiyu sealed the victory.

The Robert Simiyu led tam will be meeting other teams from Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.

Simiyu said: “We really want to play at the nationals. In the last two years, we have been performing well losing on a small margin but this year, we want to play at the nationals.”

However he insisted that his plans plus the school is to ensure that they nurture talents and bring up girls who can play quality football in the country as well as international class.

“The school has invested a lot in promoting sports therefore we have the ability to bring young girls into the fore to ensure they perform well in the co-curricular activities,” added Simiyu.

Apart from Chapa Dimba, they are also planning to play at the national levels in the Kenya secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) that starts in May.

“Last year, we lost at the regions in the hands of Wiyeta but we want to come up with a good team for the schools games,” he said.

In a round robin encounter, Plateau thrashed Nyota Ndogo 6-0 and a 1-0 win over Espodec in girls category.
