Athletics Kenya president Jack Tuwei is a worried man over the new entrants in the anti-doping fight environment.
Tuwei said that dopers in Kenya have increased and there is nothing new about that as new players have joined the system, proving to be difficult in the fight against the vice.
“What worries us about this situation is what, in my view, it is because there are so many other players within that environment. There are new players who have come in and we need to monitor such new players and know others for us to succeed in this battle and the menace as well,” said Tuwei.
Last week, the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) released a list of 20 athletes who have been provisionally suspended for doping.
To this, the head of the federation said that they need to know their intentions, which are not very clear. He said that they approached Sports Cabinet secretary Ababu Namwamba for help which will bear friends.
“We also need to know these players’ intentions but I am happy that when we approached the CS for sports to discuss this issue, he agreed and accepted to bring in more people to fight and increase institutions to work together,” added Tuwei.
He said that they will be working with a multi-agency team to work together to bring the doping menace to an end.
“Because of the new players who have come into the environment and since we have been in category A for over five years now we need to work together as a country to ensure we end the menace,” he said.
He stated that the country was almost winning the battle and getting out of category A but with the new environment and players, he said they need new players to work together.
“This is another class of players whom we don’t understand their routes but slowly we shall come to arrest them and end the battle on a positive note,” he said.
