Reigning world Road Running championshops 5km bronmze medalist Nicholas Kimeli Kipkorir and Discovery Kenya cross country champion Emmaculate Anyango Achoi were the winners of the Athletics Kenya Cross country championships held at the Iten MTC grounds in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The Commonwealth Games 5,000m silver medalist won the senior men title in 30:05.0 ahead of Weldon Langat (30:17.09) and Asbel Kiprop 30:17.9.
Kimeli was returning to competition after securing a historic bronze medal in the men’s 5km race at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Riga, Latvia in October.
Fresh from winning silver at the Lille 10km race in France, Anyango was in her own class, outclassing all athletes winning with a big margin at the race
Anyango won in 33:22:5 ahead of Betty Jepkemoi who settled for second place in an impressing in 34:19:0 with Deborah Samum completing the podium at 35:08:2.
Johanna Erot, the Mt Elgon cross country winner added his second victory in the 8km junior me with a 24:25:8 victory ahead of Gideon Kipngetich 24:53:3 and National secondary schools 3,000m steeplechase champion Mathew Kosgey. 25:02:9.
In 6km junior women, Africa under 18 2,000m steeplechase bronmze medalist Diana Chepkemoi won the title in 20:38.5 ahead of Maureen Chepkoech and nancy Cherop.
