Eliud Kipchoge is the best sports person of the year at SOYA awards

World marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge was voted the best Sports Personality of the year ending 2018 during Safaricom Sports Personality of the Year (SOYA) held today at Fort Jesus in Mombasa County.

It was a double victory for Kipchoge after he was named the male sports personality of the year, he added his sports person of the year.

This was the second time the reigning Olympic marathon winning the title after winning in 2016.

The two time London marathon winner edged Kenya Sevens star Willy Ambaka, Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi, 1500m World, Commonwealth and African champion Elijah Manangoi and 3,000m steeplechase runner Conseslus Kipruto.

As athletes dominated the gala, 3,000m steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech was named the best female sports personality ahead of WBC champion boxer Fatuma Zarika, Kenya Lionesses star Janet Okello, 5,000m World and African champion Hellen Obiri and World Under-20 3,000m steeplechase champion Celliphine Chespol.
