Former Champions Namibia to arrive first for Barthes Trophy championships

Namibia is set to land in Kenya on Monday next week ahead of Africa Barthes Trophy champions that will be played at the Nyayo national stadium.

The Rugby Africa under 20 rugby championships is set to be played on the weekend on 24th to 3rd June 2021.

Champions Kenya, Chipu have had a series of training camps in Nairobi and Nakuru over the past month and have also had the opportunity to play training matches against local club sides KCB and Mwamba, winning both, albeit by close margins, 15-10 against KCB and 12-10 against Mwamba.

The former champions will be the first team to arrive in the country to fight for the trophy they last won in 2018 then Madagascar and Senegal are expected to jet in on Wednesday 23 June ahead of match-day 1 action on Saturday 26th.

“Namibia, will be the first side to arrive for the Rugby Africa Barthes U20 Trophy happening in Nairobi from 24th June to 3rd July,” reads a statement by KRU.

“The former champions will land in Nairobi on Monday 21 June and will be followed by Madagascar and Senegal who will jet in on Wednesday 23 June ahead of matchday 1 action on Saturday 26 June 2021,” the statement further states.

Barthes Cup is held on an annual basis and the winners of the competition earn the right to represent the African continent at the World Rugby Junior Trophy
