Elgon Cup beating Kenya 15s Simbas and Uganda Cranes has been postponed due to the biting coronavirus pandemic.
Today, the Uganda Rugby Union, on their official twitter handle @ugandarugby, announced the postponement due to the escalating numbers of COVID-19. After consultations between their rugby governing body and Kenya Rugby Union they saw it fit to postpone the clash.
The two Unions will now settle on a new date before making an announcement later.
The twit read: ““Elgon Cup postponed. Due to the escalating numbers of COVID-19 infection, the Elgon Cup that was scheduled for 26th June 2021 has been postponed. The decision was made in consultation with Kenya Rugby Union and a new date will be communicated in due course.”

Uganda is currently on a 42-day countrywide lockdown that has suspended all sports activities without prior COVID-19 tests and also banned fans from the stadiums.
The Elgon Cup was last played in 2019 with the newly appointed technical bench guiding the Simbas to a 16-5 win over Uganda in the return leg played in Kampala to retain the trophy on a 29-21 aggregate.
Kenya Simbas had lost the first leg encounter played at the Mamboleo Showground in Kisumu 16-13. Last year the competition could not kick-off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both sides are yet to play a competitive 15s match since the 2019 Victoria Cup which saw the Simbas finish second while Uganda came third.
